Hang On

Joe and Jessa I was truly convicted by the insect that gripped our van while we traveled around yesterday! When daddy first discovered the little guy on his side mirror the clock started ticking! How long would he hang on? We were quick to impose human thoughts and feelings on him. How would he ever find his family? Would he be able to find friends when he fell off miles from home? You even named him, Density McHitchinson!

The most amazing thing is that he made it all the way home! He endured 60 mph sustained winds on a slippery surface, extreme random gusts when semi trucks passed by, beating sun, a hot surface, changes in momentum, waiting for us to eat, shop, get gas, and visit grandma. In the end he survived a nine hour ordeal! Why? What was so important that he wouldn't let go or jump off the first time we stopped. What possessed the little guy to hang on against all odds. Honestly, I think it was for me!

ALS causes me to identify with our green little stow away. The situation I find myself in is not a trip I planned to take. I am daily trying to figure out how to manage my new reality and process my emotions. My daily victories are determined by what I grip!

The WISE man secured his house to a ROCK and he didn't move! The principles laid out for me in the Bible to live by are still the same as they were before I had ALS! When I practice what I know to be true I will be prepared to HANG ON...CONTINUOUSLY until I get home!

Matthew 7:24-27

Build Your House on the Rock

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who

built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on

that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these

words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain

fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
