HELP IS AT THE DOOR

I had an unscheduled trach replacement this past Friday morning because my trach malfunctioned. Unfortunately, I was still having trouble breathing Saturday. After doing everything we could think of to improve the air flow, Lou called our local respiratory tech. He asked if he could come over and adjust the settings on my ventilator. In less than 10 minutes there was a big knock at our door. Lou let Casey in and within 15 minutes I was breathing freely again.

When I heard Casey knock on the door, I was so excited, help was here! In Revelation 3:14-22, someone else is knocking at my door. In this passage Jesus is talking to the believers at the church in Laodicea. They are living in a rich and thriving city but the city lacks one thing...water. As a result, they have to pipe in water using aqueducts. Cold water from cold springs in Colossae traveled ten miles, and hot water from hot springs in Hierapolis traveled to Laodicea from six miles in the other direction. Needless to say, by the time both water sources reached Laodicea they were lukewarm. Not cold and refreshing nor hot and medicinal. Jesus said it was the kind of water that made people spit it or spew it out of their mouths.

Similarly, the Laodicean church was lukewarm and caused Jesus to “spew” them out of His mouth. They thought that they were so rich and secure but inwardly they were wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. (v.17) Jesus, targeting the matters of their hearts, said to them, "Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore, be zealous and repent." (v.19) Casey went above and beyond to come and knock on my door last Saturday evening and save my life. How much more did Jesus endure to come knock on my door? The problem with the water in Laodicea was it was too far from the source. When I get distracted and preoccupied with life and neglect to deal with my sin and matters of my heart, I am at a distance from my source, Jesus. Just like Casey, Jesus knows exactly what needs to be done. "iI advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see." (v. 18) It is up to me to open up the door and let Him in and surrender to the what He wants to do in and through me. Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." - Jesus I Surrender All
