Escape Room

Out of all the options for entertainment, the Escape Room is the most comical to me. We pay good money to be trapped in a room for an hour, trying to solve a critical virtual dilemma. The only way out is by figuring out a series of puzzles, riddles, brain teasers and finding hidden clues. Jessa and her youth group made it out with seconds to spare. When they started they actually had to find the light switch with two flashlights. Sounds to me like scenarios that result in therapy.
When we literally find ourselves in an Escape Room crisis it is never enjoyable. No matter how many hours we spend trying to find the way out we usually fail. For instance, my ALS has created far more dilemmas than solutions and incredible exhaustion for my husband and family. When there is no apparent end in sight, this is often the time when people question the existence and power of God.
The whole Escape Room business model is one that Satan has been using for years. The Bible has a number of examples of incredible escapes and what appears to be epic disasters. In hind site I can see that they were never going through it alone. The whole point of Satan using this method is to try to make me feel like I'm hopelessly all alone. He wants me to believe that I can be trapped somewhere beyond God's powerful love. However, my greatest need is to be in God's presence. I can never be separated from Him!
Romans 8:34-39
Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
