Figure it Out

When I was in high school and college I spent my summers working construction with Corky Hogaboam, endearingly AKA Sir. He taught me everything about flooring, painting and roofing.

He was an incredible teacher and mentor. One day I was having a bear of a time trying to get a light fixture off the side of the house. We were prepping the home for painting and I was sure that they built the house around this light. I went to tell Sir and told that I couldn't get the fixture off. He didn't get upset OR fire me. He wisely told me that it didn't matter how much time it took but I needed to figure it out! Ten minutes later I came back to report my victory.

A year ago, Debbie Smallwood, my speech therapist taught me how to successfully drink water out of a martini glass. I was able to tilt the glass and not have to pick it up. Genius! That is until last month. Three days in a row I ended up choking and gagging and I COULDN'T drink. Awake in bed, I asked the Lord to help me. He helped me realize that in the process of trying to hang on to the glass I had pulled myself too close to the table. My neck was too bent to swallow freely. The next day I sat at a different angle, no problems!

The Bible tells me that when I need wisdom I can always pray and ask God (James 1:5-8). He is the one I can go to when I CAN'T do what is being asked of me. His goal is not to make my life easy but that I figure it out.

He knows that with every obstacle that I hurdle my faith will grow. I will learn that all things are possible!

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
